Carols Quilts

Way back in the 80's I made quilts. I taught Quilting and Patchwork. I wrote a newsletter on Quilters in Tasmania and I just adored making quilts and collecting fabrics of course. I have not made any quilts since the early 90's after I moved to Melbourne from Hobart. I still have my "stash" of solid colour and given away all my prints and florals to dear friends before leaving Tasmania.

These 2 quilts I made out of interest to see how I could produce a triangle quilt in 3 dimension by folding squares in half and then placing them on top of another square and then piecing them all together in some sort of order.

Tasmania/Hobart

I was very fortunate to live in Tasmania for 20 years where my 2 wonderful sons were born in 1980 and 1982. Hobart was a great place to bring up the kids and we were one street away from the beach at Battery Point/Sandy Bay.
I have returned several times and now feel I have left behind a life that was full and interesting not to mention creatve as well.
Last year I visited friends in Kettering and also Blackmans Bay and met up with other friends at Constitution Dock.



The boys attended Albeura Primary School and later went on to Taroona High. There is so much to see in Tasmania and all so close by. I was amazed at the way the council had allowed terrible in fill housing in the Heritage part of Sandy Bay. I guess thats progress but at what cost.

My Saturday mornings always started with a trip to Salamanca Market and I had coffee there upon my recent visit as one does.



North Hobart is now full of the most amazing cafes and interesting eateries. So much to choose from and the old State theatre has been refurbished so I had been told.

While staying at Kettering we drove over the hill to Cygnet and had a lovely curry lunch in a small place called The Lotus Eaters Cafe.



The view from the marina at Kettering was glorious as ever....




We drove back to take in Peppermint Bay and a look at the new restaurant there. I remember the old red brick pub that played folk music on Sundy afternoons. The sculture garden was great and they have boat trips there from Hobart Docks.

I guess I will visit Hobart again but not as frequently as i have done in the past 12 years

My Garden

Spring is well and truly here. Despite the lack of rain until just recently my garden somehow seems to improve out of site. I inherited this English Cottage Garden and you have to be at it all the time. Especilly now since the warmer weather approcahes.
The Blue Bells in the front are a delight this year. The best they have been in 10 years!


In the rear garden I have managed to have an old tired Meleuca removed and it has opened up a whole new area for planting. I am thinking o planting more Gravellias as they attract birds and as the cats have passed away I thought it appropiate.

Also remove an old woody lavender and am planting a mixture of lavenders as they are very drought tolerant. So are the roses out the front.

Well the Wisteria is just splendid in all its glory with a ceiling of hanging bunches of purple and mauve flowers.


Down the "blind" side I have placed a lovely Buddha with a red background. I hope to plant some bamboo on either side in large pots soon.
